NYS Grants Gateway Announces Changes

NYS Grants Reform Team and Newly Formed Nonprofit Coordination Unit Announce Change to the Grants Gateway
In response to feedback from nonprofit organizations, nonprofit advisory groups, and State agencies, the Grants Reform Team and Nonprofit Coordination Unit are pleased to announce enhancements to the Grants Gateway. These changes are effective March 19, 2015.

Changes to Prequalification Status

Expired documents are the leading cause of nonprofits losing their prequalification status in Grants Gateway. Until now, nonprofit organizations temporarily forfeited their prequalification status if they proactively opened their Document Vault to upload new versions of their IRS990, CHAR500, and Audit Report before the existing documents expired. The new updates to Grants Gateway will make it easier for nonprofit organizations to proactively update their documents and to know when their documents are going to expire.

Moving forward, prequalified nonprofits will not lose their Prequalified status when they proactively update their documents. To make this possible, two new statuses have been added to Grants Gateway:
  • Prequalified/Open

If a prequalified organization opens their document vault to proactively upload new documents before the old ones expire, they will be placed in the "Prequalified/Open" status
  • Prequalified/In Review

Once the new documents are submitted and under review, the organization will be in the "Prequalified/In Review" status.
Grant applications received from nonprofit organizations in either of the new statuses at the application due date and time will be eligiblefor State agency review.

Register for our webinar!Upcoming Training Training related to these changes will be available on a regular basis. Visit the Grants Gateway training calendar for more informationclick here.

What if Our Documents Expire?

Nonprofits that allow the documents in their vault to expire will continue to lose their Prequalified status. These nonprofits will be placed in a new "Document Vault Expired" status.
State agencies will not review grant applications
submitted by nonprofits in this status.

New Email Reminder
Schedule

Email

The Grants Gateway updates also include changes to pre and post expiration emails. These emails will contain a new informative subject line and stronger language to warn of an upcoming loss of prequalification status. These emails will be sent 30, 20, and 10 days prior to expiration. If a nonprofit does lose its Prequalified status, post-expiration emails will be sent with a new informative subject line and stronger language to ensure that the nonprofit is aware of the loss of its prequalification status. These emails will be sent 1, 15, 30, and 60 days after expiration.

Video: 30 Arts Projects Awarded $48,000 in Grants
Grants awarded by the nonprofit Dutchess County Arts Council will help recognize “values and treasures” in different Hudson Valley neighborhoods by bringing funding to local art projects, council President Linda Marston-Reid said.
Thirty projects in Dutchess and Ulster counties were given $48,000 during a ceremony Monday afternoon at Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center in the City of Poughkeepsie.
Of the 30 projects, 25 are community programs, which represent a wide variety of mediums such as dance, theater and visual art. They should reach an estimated 22,000 people, Marston-Reid said.
Grants are through the Decentralization Program, a “regrant” program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Dutchess County Arts Council.
“They believe our region should decide how to use them,” Marston-Reid said.
Projects are awarded with grants after being chosen by a community panel, which then recommends them to the arts council board, said Eve Madalengoitia, director of programs and arts services.
Meredith Heuer of Beacon was awarded the individual artist tier grant for $2,500 to continue working on the “Beacon Portrait Project.”
She’s taken 99 portraits of Beacon residents in their homes since she started working on the project four years ago.
“One person I take a portrait of will recommend another person,” Heuer said. “I think the method is good ... when we’re working we’ll be talking about what we like about Beacon.”
She said she hopes a gallery exhibit of her work in October will bring her subjects together.
Marston-Reid said that’s an example of how the projects bring the community together.
“Meredith’s project makes us recognize that there are all different people in our community and there’s a rich tapestry,” Marston-Reid said. “We are very pleased that the governor (Andrew Cuomo) sees value in the arts because it brings people to the region and it keeps them here.”
This year, the council’s name will officially change to Arts Mid-Hudson, the organization announced.
It will expand from covering Dutchess and Ulster counties to begin working in Orange County in 2014.

Omega’s 9th Annual Service Week to Focus on Nonprofits Reinforcing a Broad Range of Social Services, Including Those Supporting Strength & Safety for Women & Girls in the Mid-Hudson Valley & Beyond.
RHINEBECK, New York (PRWEB) May 16, 2013
As service-oriented nonprofits struggle to survive in the current budget-slashing environment, Omega is offering 27 nonprofits the opportunity for much needed planning retreats where they can develop solutions to the challenge of balancing high demands and low resources. For the ninth consecutive year, Omega has offered grants to its nonprofit peers to participate in their own strategic planning retreats at Omega’s 200-acre campus in Rhinebeck, New York. Since its inception, approximately 184 organizations and 3,178 people have participated in this unique retreat grant program. Omega’s annual Service Weekis comprised of two sessions. The first session focuses on Mid-Hudson Valley nonprofits that address social service, social justice, and safety-net needs. The second session brings together nonprofits that serve women and girls for a unique experienced called the Women Serving Women Summit.
“At a time when nonprofits that provide safety net services are forced to do more with less, our Service Week grants provide a rare opportunity for these organizations to get out of the office and take a step back from the front line of their work to plan, network, and build capacity,” said Carla Goldstein, chief external affairs officer at Omega and cofounder of the Omega Women’s Leadership Center. “The 2013 Women Serving Women Summit focuses on organizations working to ensure the safety of women and girls since their well-being and ability to thrive is crucial to worldwide social, political, and economic development,” concluded Goldstein.
All grantees are awarded two-day, two-night organizational retreats that include free room and board, a private meeting space, use of all the facilities at Omega, and a consultation with Omega’s partner, the New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON). NYCON will also host a roundtable on fundraising.
“The positive value and impact of Service Week on grantee nonprofits and the communities they serve becomes more evident each year. Today’s service and business challenges are many, and Omega has truly stepped up to help—contributing space, support, and opportunity that only Omega can provide,” saidDoug Sauer, chief executive officer of NYCON.
Omega’s Service Week program is divided into two distinct sessions:
Session 1) 9th Annual Service Week, May 27–May 29. For nearly a decade, Omega has been committed to serving those who serve others through its annual Service Week grant program. Grantee organizations can utilize the time to develop strategic plans, cultivate relationships among their board members and with other nonprofits on campus, re-engage with their mission statement, deepen staff cooperation, and enjoy some much needed peace and relaxation. Service Week is funded in part by a grant from the Dyson Foundation that supports Mid-Hudson Valley nonprofits.
“Our participation in Service Week truly set the foundation for development within our organization. The backbone for a broad organization strategic plan that we formed at Omega has positioned us to take important steps toward implementation,” said Milan Bhatt, executive director at Worker Justice Center of New York, participants in the 2012 Service Week.
Session 2) 3rd Annual Women Serving Women Summit, May 29–31. The only nonprofit leadership retreat of its kind, the Women Serving Women Summit, a convening of nonprofits working to improve the lives of women and girls, is an integral part of the Service Week program. Coordinated by the Omega Women’s Leadership Center, the theme of this year’s summit, Building Safety & Strength, brings together national and regional organizations serving the needs and interests of women and girls.
